JOIN US ON OUR JOURNEY

We can’t truly solve homelessness without addressing the root cause of racism. As a community, we must face the reality of these intertwined challenges. As individuals and as an organization, we are accountable to the youth we serve to address them head on.

Every day young people at risk of homelessness are impacted by systems of oppression. Cocoon House is committed to driving change both internally and externally so that youth and young adults can meet their social, economic and wellbeing goals regardless of race, gender, religious beliefs, origin, physical and mental abilities, and any other form of identity.

  • Internally, we are working to make our organization a welcoming environment where everyone is safe to be their authentic self. We will pursue accountability, holding space for difficult conversations, growth, communication, and transparency for our workforce.

  • For our young people and anyone who comes into the organization, we will strive to provide equitable services, access to resources, and outcomes.

  • Within our community we seek to create community partnerships where there is a mutual understanding of values and state of wellbeing.

Our strategic priorities include:

  • Institutionalizing the role of our internal equity, diversity and inclusion committee

  • Ensuring equitable service delivery to communities of color and LGBTQ youth and families

  • Engaging community supporters in the work of our agency

  • Ensuring agency partnerships reflect common values for equitable service delivery and approach

  • Working to ensure that the wellbeing of staff from diverse backgrounds is values and prioritized

We know we won’t always get it right, but are committed to learning and growing as an organization and individuals. We invite others to join us in our work. One way to start is by reading some of the books are staff have recommended below!
