Family Engagement

The Bilingual Family Youth Advocate role works with families to achieve stability and prevent future youth homelessness. They engage families in their homes and in the community to assess family strengths and needs and create goal plans to meet those needs. The Bilingual Family Youth Advocate is responsible for supporting family case management with a total caseload of 15 families. This position also supports the facilitation of diversion seminars for parents and youth monthly. They also respond to community calls, collaborate with community partners, and work collaboratively across Cocoon House programs to ensure consistency of care for youth and families.

Bilingual Family Youth Advocate Duties & Responsibilities
Full-Time 40 hrs/week | On-site
Wages: $22-$24/hr DOE | +$1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork
This position is typically a 9am-5pm work schedule with required evening flexibility two to three days each week to meet with families, as needed. This position also requires up to one weekend each month to conduct the WayOut Seminar with weekday schedule adjusted to accommodate.
Family Case Management:
Provide case management to 15 families and participate in family meetings with the Family Advocate.
Support youth in creating their own goals that they want to work on with their family.
Collaborate with Family Advocates in family meetings, as well as providing support to the youth while they participate in the meetings.
Build relationships with community partners, support Family Education Advocates build a caseload, and gather community resources for families in Snohomish County.
Caregiver Classes and Seminars:
Co-facilitate the monthly WayOUT diversion seminars. Collaborate with coworkers and community partners to present a strong diversion workshop to families.
Conduct monthly parenting classes throughout the year with the Prevention team.
Other Responsibilities:
Provide low-barrier support for families through phone calls and drop-in services.
Provide referrals to other resources as needed.
Collect needed demographics and other information from youth and their families and complete all data entry associated with family case management and drop-in sessions in a complete and timely manner.
Support other Cocoon House programs to increase staff knowledge around family engagement and Prevention work as needed.
Assist the Director of Family Engagement in training Cocoon House staff in best practices in working with families.

This position must operate with a high level of initiative and attention to detail in order to produce accurate and quality content for clients, donors, events, and the overall community within established project timelines. Snohomish Young Adult Housing (SYAH)

The Snohomish Young Adult Housing (SYAH) Peer Navigator is responsible for building healthy, supportive relationships with program participants and assisting Cocoon House staff with providing supportive services to all program participants. A Peer Navigator is someone who has experience navigating the challenges and barriers of young people experiencing homelessness or housing instability and is able to use that experience to help guide program participants that are having a similar experience. In this role, the Peer Navigator acts as a point of connection between other Cocoon House staff and the similarly aged program participants with whom the Peer Navigator may have life experiences in common.

SYAH Peer Navigator Duties & Responsibilities
Part-Time 20 hrs/week | On-site
Wages: $19-$20/hr DOE | +$1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills with additional paperwork
Act as a unique avenue for communication with program participants with regular check-ins.
Assist in establishing and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for transitional housing participants.
Work in collaboration with case managers in achieving program goals and providing supportive services, including addressing chemical dependency, mental health, employment, education, financial, housing and documentation needs.
Assist program participants in navigating the challenges associated with attaining and maintaining housing stability. This can include providing or helping young adults connect to socio-emotional support as well as offering advice on practical life skills and positive youth development.
Input accurate data and case notes following meetings with clients.
Provide insight on how to make and maintain the program so it is driven and focused on participants.

After Hours Support Specialist Duties & Responsibilities
Full-Time | On-site in Everett & Monroe
Starting Wages: $23-24/hr | +$1.50/hr pay differential for multi-lingual skills
Provide every other week on-call after-hours shift scheduling and coverage, as needed. During After-Hours On-Call weeks, there will be 20 hours of pre-scheduled coverage plus any last minute shifts that aren’t able to be covered by on-call staff. In addition, the After-Hours Support Specialist responds to staff calls about youth emergencies. On the opposite weeks, there will be 40 hours of prescheduled coverage.
Perform all RYC duties while on shift including but not limited to: Assist all residents with needs including support, problem solving, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, enforcing house guidelines, logging, pass-down, cleaning, transportation, and other concerns
Engage with staff members in a collaborative and supportive way to meet the needs of the youth, programs and staff both in person, and on the phone.
Maintain ongoing training requirements.
Engage youth using strength based and trauma informed approach and assist them as they work towards goals.
Work with case management to assure smooth transition into and out of units
Ensure files for residents are complete and contain all necessary paperwork to meet grant and funding requirements.
Become familiar with licensing requirements and ensure staff and programs maintain proper licensing standards.
Willingness to work in all housing programs with short notice.
Assess crisis situations and provide support to staff and youth while communicating with agency leadership as necessary.
